Pall Water

    Data monitoring increases service level

    Customer

Pall Corporation is a leading global provider of advanced filtration, separation and purification technologies. The company is part of the Hach Group and offers the industrial market a comprehensive range of filtration products, including cartridge filtration systems, ultra and micro filtration, reverse osmosis and mobile solutions. For both municipal and industrial end-users Pall uses advanced membrane technologies.

    Challenge

Pall uses a lot of measuring and control equipment to measure and analyse parameters such as temperature, (membrane) pressure, flow, permeability and conductivity. "However, we were losing a lot of time collecting all this data via the PLCs and translating it into the right insights," explains Sascha Mohn, after-sales & service manager at Pall Water EMEA. "Among other things, downloading data and connecting to the internet was sometimes difficult. This is why we went in search of a better solution for reporting. After extensive market research, we decided to go with Ikologik ."

    Solution

Both companies decided to start with tests on a number of ultrafiltration units. This approach allowed them to see how the software would react to different installations and different water qualities. "We were pleased to find that the open architecture of the Ikologik Industrial Cloud offers possibilities for many different connections," continues Sascha Mohn.

The continuous logging and monitoring of data allows for early warnings to be given to operators when certain anomalies or inefficiencies occur, making it possible to make adjustments quickly. Moreover, the system anticipates the needs of Industry 4.0, making it very suitable for companies that do not want to miss the train of the Internet of Things.

"The continuous reporting of all relevant parameters leads to less energy consumption and fewer water losses," analyses Sascha Mohn. "We also need to use fewer chemicals, have far fewer unforeseen 'shutdowns' or other problems. Moreover, the membranes last longer. The correct interpretation of process data allows for continuous optimisation of the plant. Our customers like the fact that we can significantly increase our service level thanks to this accurate data monitoring."
