Dely Waffles
Belgian pride, enjoyed with a smile across the globe.
Exact cost
What is the exact cost of a produced waffle? That was the key question that sparked the collaboration with Dely. A brand new facility with a highly advanced machinery setup, opened the door to push boundaries, both in terms of capacity and market reach. But you do not take that leap without staying in control. The business owners wanted more than just insight into raw material use and waste streams. They wanted the full picture, including runtime (OEE), waste and energy consumption. All crucial parameters for targeted optimisation and profitable production had to become transparent.
Global supply
The tight schedule is aligned with intercontinental shipping. That makes it crucial to know exactly how many waffles are produced within a given time frame. That is why machine uptime is closely monitored. Dely tracks OEE at multiple points throughout the production process, giving the company clear visibility. Various control systems quickly detect and correct any deviations. This keeps the process under control, minimises unnecessary losses and ensures production continues to meet the highest quality standards.
Simple but effective
Parameters like water, gas, and electricity consumption are also closely monitored within the same system, although displayed on separate dashboards. The data is used not only to calculate production costs but also as an early warning sign for potential issues. One example: a sudden increase in energy use by a cooling unit could indicate ice build-up in the system, whatever the underlying cause may be. With a timely alert, Dely can step in quickly, prevent problems, and avoid unnecessary costs.
Data and HR
Interestingly, Dely also uses data for HR purposes. When a particular station triggers (too) many alarms, it usually indicates an incorrect machine setting. The company leverages the alarm logs to provide targeted training and further development for employees, tailored to the machines they operate.
A new climb
The collaboration with Dely Waffles is moving into the next phase as Dely is preparing to take the next steps in its journey. The waffle producer has chosen to further digitalise its production processes using Ikologik’s modular MES platform.
In the first stage, printers and labellers are controlled. They are triggered by operator actions following the workorders linked with the ERP system: no manual entries and no mistakes. Operators play an active role: in addition to receiving instructions, they gain better insight into the planning and have a clearer view of the workflow. All production data is collected during the process itself and communicated with ERP, instead of dealing with annoying paperwork afterwards. The result is a trouble-free flow, with greater comfort for everyone involved.
About Dely
For three generations, Dely has been producing frozen waffles for retail and foodservice. After a devastating fire at their Moeskroen site, Dely had to find a new location. The family business turned this challenge into a fresh start. In 2017, they moved into a brand-new production site in Estaimpuis, fully equipped with ultra-modern machinery.
Like no other, the family holds the know-how to craft an exquisite product the market simply can’t get enough of. A true Belgian pride, proudly carried into the world through Dely’s wide product range. Ranked among the global players, the name Dely is widely recognised as a trusted reference in many places around the world.
A powerful story of courage, daring to dream big, striving for better and never, never, never giving up.
